Niger Delta Communities Join the Campaign against Violence. On the 13th and 16th December 2014, LITE-Africa hosted a football for peace competition in Uvwie and Oshimili South LGAs respectively in Delta State. The event is an integral part the Strengthening Youth Engagement in Development (SYED) project which seeks to address youth involvement in violent behaviour by working to enhance youth ability to manage conflict towards ensuring long-term stabiliy and economic development in the Niger Delta. SYED is funded by the US Department of States through Stakeholder Democracy Network (SDN).

Voluntary Principles on Security & Human Rights Call-to-Action Conference Report This report presents the outcome and results of the VPs Call to Action Conference hosted by the Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE Africa) in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) titled ‘Promoting Investment and Security in the Extractive Sector through multi-stakeholder initiatives’ held in Abuja, Nigeria on 26 February, 2014. This event attracted over 50 participants comprising of representatives of strategic government agencies, CSOs, members of diplomatic community, trade union associations, representatives of oil bearing communities and the media. It was the first ever VPs national advocacy event of this scale at which oil producing community members were invited and participated actively. Strengthening CSOs capacity to promoting Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights The VPs Accountability project funded by the Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID) is a one year project (October2013-September 2014) with an overall goal to strengthen the Nigeria CSO Coalition on Business and Human Rights to build and enforce measures of corporate accountability, including increasing state practices on business and human rights principles and standards and ensuring the Nigerian government and Oil companies commits to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. The major Objectives of the project are: To Increase the awareness of the VPs and provide a platform for engagement in Nigeria through trainings and workshops To enhance advocacy skills of community members and CSOs to persuade oil companies and the Federal Government to sign up to and operationalize the VPs.

LITE-Africa Commissions Oil and Cassava Processing Facilities to Empower Women LITE-Africa as part of its Oxfam Novib Livelihood and Governance (ONLAG) project has commissioned three cassava and one oil processing facility in Aviara and Enwhe community in Isokoh LGA and Ayama and Zarama community in Yenegoa LGA to provide alternate source of livelihood to women in these communities. This was made possible through a generous support from Oxfam Novib as part of the 5 year efforts in enhancing socio economic and political participation of women in decision making in the Niger Delta. The commissioning ceremony was attended by representatives of Oxfam Novib, Chairman of Yenegoa LGA, Programme Manager Agricultural Development Programme (ADP), Women Cooperative Members as well as other Community leaders.
