VPs Accountability Project

With funding from Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID), LITE-Africa is implementing a 12-month national project entitled “Strengthening CSOs capacity to promoting Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights as an Accountability tool in Nigeria”- VPs Accountability Project.

The overall goal of the project is to strengthen the Nigerian CSO Coalition on Business and Human Rights to be able to advocate and create awareness of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights as an accountability tool, to ensure full implementation by the extractive companies and other stakeholder groups.

The VPs Accountability project has two specific objectives:

1. To increase the awareness of the VPs through providing platforms for engagement in Nigeria using trainings and workshops

2. To enhance advocacy skills of community members and CSOs to persuade oil companies and the Federal Government to sign up to and operationalize the VPs. The project will target Civil Society Organizations, Government Institutions, Members of Joint Task Force, Police, International Oil Companies, Residents of Koroama and Gbarantoru Communities in Bayelsa State and Abalagada and Benakuku Communities in Delta state.
