Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Awareness Campaign

Since 2010, LITE-Africa (formerly NIDPRODEV), has been partnering with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to carry out the Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Awareness Campaign. This campaign seeks to combat against pipeline vandalism, as it inhibits community development, causing losses in life, property and income. Pipeline vandalism has also led to oil spills, fires, and environmental damage.

The campaign occurs on a yearly basis in eight communities that host SPDC facilities including, Otobo I, Otobo II, Ogulagha, Ofoegbene, Sokebolou, Yeye, Youbebe and Yokri. Lite-Africa Community Relations Officers facilitate each event, with over 200 participants per community. Participants are made aware of the dangers of pipeline vandalism and are encouraged to be actively involved in the protection of pipelines in their communities. Participants have welcomed the campaign and are committed to work against pipeline vandalism.
