LITE-Africa Commissions Oil and Cassava Processing Facilities to Empower Women in Isoko South and Yenegoa L.G.A

LITE-Africa as part of its Oxfam Novib Livelihood and Governance (ONLAG) project has commissioned three cassava and one oil processing facility in Aviara and Enwhe community in Isokoh LGA and Ayama and Zarama community in Yenegoa LGA to provide alternate source of livelihood to women in these communities. This was made possible through a generous support from Oxfam Novib as part of the 5 year efforts in enhancing socio economic and political participation of women in decision making in the Niger Delta.

 

2nd CSO Roundtable on Business & Human Right Report

Following the inaugural meeting of the Nigerian CSO Coalition on Business and Human Rights held in March 2013, it became imperative to call for a second meeting to follow up with CSO activities on promotion of VPS, strengthen the membership and seek more ways of collaborations in the attainment to the objective of the coalition. This meeting was convened courtesy of the AUSAid funded project entitled “A Call to Action: Engaging all Stakeholders on the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights in Nigeria, to sensitize and educate the CSOs on the project objectives.

 

CSO Roundtable on Business & Human Right Report

This report has been written to document the discussions, insights and outcomes from the inaugural Nigerian CSO Coalition on Business and Human Rights held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on the 12th of March 2013. The event brought together approximately 13 participants including CSOs working on issues of environment, transparency and accountability, corporate social responsibility, human rights, peace and conflicts, and community development. The event was convened by Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment in Africa (LITE-Africa) with partnership from Search for Common Ground who provided the space for the meeting to take place.

Stakeholder Policy Dialogue Conference

As part of LITE-Africa’s implemention strategy of the Oxfam Novib funded project, “On Livelihood and Governance (ONLAG), Stakeholders’ Policy Dialogues were held in Four (4) Local Government Areas (Southern Ijaw, Yenegoa, Isoko South and Warri North) in Bayelsa and Delta states on the 7th, 9th, 14th and 15th of August, 2012 to strengthen the capacity of local community women and men to achieve 30% women’s participation in community level decision making and governance and share findings of the 2012 Citizen Report Card (CRC) on Governance, Gender and Livelihoods in the Niger Delta.

 

Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Awareness Campaign

Since 2010, LITE-Africa (formerly NIDPRODEV), has been partnering with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to carry out the Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Awareness Campaign. This campaign seeks to combat against pipeline vandalism, as it inhibits community development, causing losses in life, property and income. Pipeline vandalism has also led to oil spills, fires, and environmental damage.

 

CDCAC Inauguration and Orientation

As part of its Oxfam Novib funded Livelihood and Governance Programme (ONLAG), being implemented in four LGAs and 20 communities of Delta and Bayelsa State, LITE-Africa (formerly NIDPRODEV) established seven-person Community Development Council Advisory Committees (CDCAC) in each project LGA. The CDCAC is a community-level project advisory group comprised of community residents and local government representatives. It is tasked with gathering inforamtion about the development needs of its communities and ensuring that those needs are heard by government.
