Position: Associate Executive Director

Reports to: Executive Director

Organization: Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment (LITE-Africa)

LITE-Africa is a national development organization that has been operating in Nigeria since 1999 with a vision to create a safe space for peace and development action and a mission to facilitate community and human development, foster good governance and create inclusive and diverse networks and collaborations within the Niger Delta and beyond. We are currently seeking applications for the vacant post of Associate Executive Director, which will be based in Ugbolokposo–Warri, Delta State.

Our program is focused on economic justice, gender justice, conflict resolution, good governance, humanitarian work and corporate social responsibility with a strong focus on changing the power dynamics that create poverty and inequality in Nigeria.

The Associate Executive Director is responsible for all of LITE-Africa’s program, ensuring high levels of accountability and program impact.

Objective of the position

Our ideal Associate Executive Director has multiple competences. S/he knows how to run a diverse team, knows his/her way around Human Resources, budget steering and facility management. S/he has an engaging personality, is politically savvy and has a profound network in Nigeria, and most especially the Niger Delta region. S/he also has an exceptional understanding of program development and how to efficiently and effectively execute quality programs. S/he has also proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with major donors.

Main tasks

  • Provides strategic leadership and management of LITE-Africa’s program in country including all development, advocacy, and humanitarian programming to maximize our influence and impact, and leads the design, and implementation of LITE-Africa’s regional strategy efforts;
  • Creates and supports an environment which results in strong partnerships, influence, knowledge sharing and innovation;
  • Accountable to the Founder and Board of Trustees for strategic oversight, program accountability and affiliation process where appropriate;
  • Manages LITE-Africa’s Senior Management Team and line manages the work in the organization: staff, budget, funding and program;
  • Ensures that HR Management in the organization is organized with best practices in consultation with the Founder and Board of Trustees;
  • Takes the lead in representing LITE-Africa nationally and globally by building influential relationships and developing networks for impactful change and committed to maximizing our influencing capability;
  • Accountable for all donor relations and contract management in country. Works with the Founder and Board of Trustees to create a strategy to maintain and seek new funding sources to support program implementation


Ideal Competencies

Our ideal candidate has the following:

  • Senior management experience in leading the development and ensuring the delivery, of program strategy in challenging locations;
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically, including the ability to think beyond the country program context and to act within a regional and global framework;
  • Experience of fundraising from diverse institutions, both local and international;
  • Demonstrates good judgment, willingness to take risk, based on analysis;
  • Experience in leading and motivating multi-disciplinary teams; a high degree of self-awareness;
  • Background in law, specifically human rights law and international/national laws
  • Experience of managing complex change processes and relationships involving a wide range of both internal and external multi-cultural stakeholders across a variety of disciplines
  • Experience in representing an organization with partners, government agencies, private sector organizations, and donors at senior level: locally, regionally and globally on Nigeria;
  • An active commitment to promoting gender equity and the interests of marginalized people in all aspects of an organizations work;
  • High level of financial management skills to steer the operational budget;
  • Understanding of managing security and risk within an NGO context;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence, and negotiate.

Position:  Logistics Officer

Location: Effurun-Warri, Delta State

Purpose of Job

The incumbent will be responsible for the safety of project staff and motor vehicles at all times and adheres to LITE-Africa policies on managing motor vehicles and travel rules.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

·Maintain the fleet in safe and efficient working order.

·Ensure that vehicles are checked on a daily basis, and that regular service and maintenance is carried out as per agreed schedule.

·Monitor fuel consumption and submit weekly/monthly reports to Logistics Manager.

·Ensure vehicles’ planned preventive maintenance is carried out with minimum disruption to program activities.

·Performing pick-ups, deliveries, repairs and makes purchases of office supplies as directed by the Logistics Manager.

·In coordination with the project staff, making all necessary arrangements and reservations for meeting and field trips for project staff.

·Reports defects and malfunctions to the Admin Officer.

·Ensuring all vehicles have updated insurance, registration and other required documents.

·Perform other duties as may be required

 

Job Requirement:

 

·Minimum of GCE/School certificate.

·Minimum of three years' work experience as a driver in an NGO or similar environment.

·Must have a valid driver's license.

·Able to work under minimum supervision.

·Able to commence duty in the shortest period of time.

Position:  Finance & Administration Associate

Purpose of Job

To provide the Finance & Administration Manager and the Operations Manager for Private Sector Engagement (PRISED) with financial, administrative and operations assistance.

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Finance

·Writing cheques and attending to banking transactions as may be required

·Inputting all transactions into QuickBooks accounting system or any other reporting template as may be required by funders

·Day to day management of office petty cash transactions; production of weekly/monthly spreadsheets and entering them into quickbooks accounting system

·Process budget advance/requisitions, payments, receipts and other necessary accounting activities

·Prepare summary of balances, cost information, or other reports as requested for use in preparing financial documents; including: processing all income and expenditure

·Monthly reconciliation of all bank statements

·May prepare payroll, and perform such other duties as may be required

 

Administration

·To provide general office administration support

·To manage office supplies

·To assist in simple HR functions, such as leave record management, etc

·To maintain orderly filing and documentation system, and manage the daily office schedule

·Manage inventory records, which include; stationery, office equipment, etc. and assist in procurement

·Perform other duties as may be required

 

Qualifications:

·Ordinary National Diploma with Accounting background or equivalent

·Fresh graduates welcome to apply

·Ability to work on MS office (Word and Excel)

·Able to work under minimum supervision

·Good interpersonal skills, meticulous, self-motivated and a team player

Call for Application: Consultant for Project-Impact Evaluation

Oxfam Novib Livelihood and Governance Project (ONLAG)

Position: Consultant for project- impact evaluation

Duration: 23 Working Days

Period: Starting from 1st December 2014

Report to: Executive Director

 

Background and Rationale

Leadership Initiative for Transformation and Empowerment- LITE Africa, a non-governmental organization based in Effurun-Warri intends to contract the services of a consultant to carry out project impact evaluation of its Oxfam Novib Livelihood and Governance Project.

Since 2009, LITE-Africa has been an Oxfam Novib’s implementing partner and currently engaged on the Oxfam Novib’s Livelihood and Governance in Niger Delta (ONLAG) project, which covers the period of 2011 to 2014 in 19 communities in 4 Local Government Areas in Delta and Bayelsa States.

 

 

Evaluation Objectives and Scope

 

Objectives:

1.To assess the relevance,  effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability and impact of the project in strengthening women participation in decision making  and livelihoods;

2.To assess achievements of the project based on the indicators in the project document;

3.To draw key lessons learned during the project implementation; and

4.To provide an overview of the strengths, weaknesses, challenges and gaps in project implementation, and recommendations for addressing the weaknesses and challenges.

 

Scope

The main focus of the evaluation will be to assess the implementation at all levels and impacts of the project, highlighting advances and practices for replication. This evaluation will take place in 8 communities, (2 communities each in Yenagoa, Southern Ijaw, Isoko South and Warri North Local Government Areas)  and will last for 23 days.

 

 

Expected Outputs:

·Review all project documents, reports of LITE-Africa including educational materials produced in relation to the project.

·Consult the project implementers, i.e. the project team, trainers/resource persons and other staff, the trainees and project beneficiaries (youth, community leaders, cooperative members, etc.) from the project areas, including government officials, civil societies, etc.

·Visit project communities in Delta and Bayelsa state to evaluate the outcome and or impact of the project to the project beneficiaries and in the larger framework, its impact on the LGA/States where the project was implemented

·Conduct a briefing session with LITE-Africa before or after the field visits at LITE-Africa office

·Detailed final evaluation report that includes recommendations and possible statement/details about any section of the activities that can be use as a model by CSOs and Government.

 

Duration

·Review of project documents, related literatures and introductory/ discussion session methodology and work plan: 2 days

· Field visit in 8 different communities in 4 LGAs of Delta and Bayelsa state:   (16 days to visit all the communities

· Writing of report (draft): 2 days

· Writing of final report: 2 days

· Debriefing session: 1 Day

 

 

The consultant shall have the following qualifications:

  • Experienced in project impact evaluation particularly in Nigeria and most especially in the Niger Delta.
  • Familiar with NGO work on capacity building and advocacy activities in the Niger Delta.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Familiar with gender and women exclusion in decision making  issues in highly male dominated communities, Convention to Eliminate all forms of Discrimination against Women ( CEDAW) and other local and international treaties and conventions on issues of women.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English.
  • Have knowledge of the Niger Delta terrain

 

 

Remuneration for the evaluator is negotiable.
